First Day of Kindergarten

Drew got up with his alarm clock, sleepy and rubbing his eyes, but excited and ready for his first full day of school.

He picked out his clothes last night and chose a "fancy" shirt (basically a polo-style shirt) because he said he wanted to look good on his first day.

My mom came and walked with us to school. It's fun ... his classroom literally faces our house, so I can look out the window and see his room. And we'll be able to watch him out on the playground.

There was a little bit of anxiety present, but no tears whatsoever. He is eager and ready for school.

On Tuesday we showed up at 9:30 for what we had originally been told in the spring would be his assessment. Turns out we never received a letter telling us that Drew and half of his class were supposed to report to school at 8:00 that morning for a "practice" session of school. So there we were half-way through, looking like idiots. No one apologized to us for not getting the letter; that didn't sit well with me. However, Drew did get to do his assessment. Not only did he ace it, he did so with not one, but SIX teachers all watching him (they were being trained). Under those circumstances, I would have completely shut down at his age! But he did great.

I'm looking forward to picking him up in a little bit and hearing all about how much fun he had today!

Last week, one of the mornings we woke up at Craig & Vickie's, we all got to go out and watch the loggers felling trees on Michael's property to open up the view for the house.

It's awesome!!

And as far as the boys were concerned, it was just one more fun thing to play with!
